Travel Advisor, Alexis Taliaferro, recently spent her honeymoon at 5 star Cayo Espanto, A Private Island, in Ambergris Caye, Belize. Looking for a unique and intimate experience, Alexis chose one of the seven villas at Cayo Espanto for it’s ultimate privacy and superior level of service.
Getting There
While getting to a private island might seem like a headache from any destination, the team at Cayo Espanto ensures that travelers have the best experience arriving to paradise. Both American Airlines and United Airlines have multiple nonstop flights from several US destinations into Belize City. From there, you are greeted by a Cayo Espanto team member and have the option to take a helicopter directly to the island, or a quick 10 min flight on a sea jet to San Pedro where you are again met by a team member and whisked away to the island via boat. Overall, their team made the transportation as seamless as possible.
The Villa
Cayo Espanto only has 7 guest accommodations on site and each villa has something different to offer. Alexis stayed in Casa Solana for the 4 nights she spent on the island. Casa Solana is a 1,500+ sq ft villa with an expansive deck, dining area and private pool. It has the best views of the Belize sunset at Cayo Espanto and always has a nice breeze rolling through, keeping the guests cooled from the afternoon sun. However, you can’t go wrong with any of Cayo Espanto’s villas with each one offering their own private plunge pool at the water’s edge and some even have their own docks.
What She Did
Cayo Espanto is the ultimate destination for true relaxation, and with her baby on the way, Alexis did a lot of just that! Belize is known to be home to the 2nd largest great barrier reef and has a plethora of activities for scuba divers and snorkelers and those who just enjoy being on the ocean. Alexis’ husband spent one morning spearfishing with the Cayo Espanto guides while Alexis relaxed on the boat enjoying the pristine turquoise waters. Cayo Espanto can arrange any activity you desire, from a full day scuba tour or a visit to the ancient Mayan ruins. Cayo Espanto also offers kayaks, paddleboards and other non-motorized activities. Don’t forget to take advantage of the in-villa spa experiences after a long day in the sun!
What She Loved
Cayo Espanto boasts their world star service and 5 star amenities, and they definitely delivered on that. Each villa is serviced by 2 housemen daily, who set up breakfast, lunch and a 4-course dinner for you daily. They were always available via walky-talky in case you ran out of one of their famous Espanto Wave cocktails or needed a snack. Each night they prepared dinner in a different location around the island, adding special touches and making you feel like you were at a world class restaurant, without ever having to leave the comfort of the island.
