Switzerland is best known for it’s gorgeous mountains and landscapes, but the adorable city of Zurich is somewhere you won’t want to miss!. Situated only 1 hour away from the Swiss mountains, this city sits on a beautiful lake and is home to diverse museums, food festivals, and Switzerland’s most vibrant nightlife! How do you get to this beautiful spot? Most major airlines fly to Zurich Airport (ZRH), the largest and busiest airport in Switzerland, but the national carrier SWISS International Airlines operates the most number of flights here.
Best Times to Visit: The best time to visit Switzerland is during the shoulder seasons, between April and June, and September to October, when the weather is at best, and there aren’t too many tourists.
Things to do:
Enjoy some fondue. This ooey gooey, delicious treat was actually invented in Switzerland during the winter months! This is one of the most mainstream Swedish dishes around the world and there are plenty of places to enjoy it! Want a more unique dining experience? Take a fondue cruise along the lake!
Stroll through Old Town (Altstadt). The cobbled stone streets and 19th century buildings make this adorable part of town a wonderful mix of old history with modern cafes and shopping. Walk uphill to Lindenhof Park to get a great view of the city below!
Sample traditional sausage at Zueghauskeller. This huge beer hall has over a dozen sausage dishes to choose from! Can’t decide? Choose the sampler where you can try 6 different sausages all topped with bacon!
Take a boat on the Limmat River. There is nothing better than an afternoon on the water. The Limmat River offers beautiful views of the city and a great way to relax and take in the sites. Make sure to bring your camera! Between boat cruises, dinner cruises, fondue cruises, and more – there is something for everyone!
Ride a cable car up to Felsenegg lookout! This is perhaps the most beautiful view in all of Zurich… and the only way to get there? One cable car. But at the top you can take in the view, enjoy a bite to eat, or hike one of the several hiking trails available!
