Gordes has been voted the most picturesque hilltop village in all of France… and looking at pictures it is easy to see why! Gordes is located in the Aix-en-Provence and has been the home to numerous artists throughout the years. Aside from its picturesque view and charm, this tiny village is also known for its breathtaking lavender fields. How do you get to this gorgeous spot? Gordes is 30 minutes from Avignon, and 2 hours and 40 minutes from Paris by car and 1 hour by plane. Paris is the easiest connection city and makes a great start to your French getaway!

Best Times to Visit: The best times to visit Aix-en-Provence are from March to May and September through November, when the weather and crowds are moderate.

Things to do:

Stroll the lavender fields. There is nothing more iconic in Provence than the gorgeous lavender fields that you have most likely seen on your social media feed! The Sénanque Abbey is located right outside of Gordes. Lavender season runs from June to August so if this is on your list of “must dos”, plan accordingly!

Marvel at the view. This hilltop town is known for its viewpoint so missing it would be criminal. All you have to do is type “town view point Gordes” into Google Maps and you will be guided straight to the most amazing view of the town. Pack some champagne and a fresh lunch to enjoy at the top… and don’t forget your camera!

Visit Chateau de Gordes. Built in 1017, this is the oldest castles in all of France. For only 7 Euro, you will be able to explore this historic monument. It is closed on Sundays.
